Paxton Pits Bird Sightings. Our Group regularly visits Paxton Pits - usually around April - for the Nightingales that can still be found there. The reserve is famous for its nightingales and cormorants and is home to a wide variety of other birds insects mammals and flora.

Paxton Pits Nature Reserve is an extensive complex of former and active gravel pits close to the A1 north-west of St Neots. Poor water quality in the Ouse Valley meant that the species was locally extinct for 30 years but in 2002 and 2003 occasional sightings suggested that it might be making a return.
